Golf Course News from Daniel Davis
General Manager of Golf Courses
It’s hard to believe it’s already that time of year when summer vacations begin to wind down and kids prepare for their return to school. We have had a very busy summer at the FSC Sports Club Golf Courses and are excited about the month to come.
Mission Beef and Brews at Riverwood
At Riverwood, we are happy to welcome Mission Beef and Brews to operate our food services. They are offering a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They opened for business on August 2, and their food is absolutely delicious! If you have not stopped by to try it yet, I would highly encourage you to do so.
We also just conducted our Club Championship this past weekend. We had 63 competitors tee it up for the 2-day event. Congratulations to Stephen Lavenets (Men’s Club Champion), Pam Bergquist (Ladies Club Champion) and Craig Lancaster (Senior Club Champion) as well as all other flight winners! Check out more Championship results here, and see photos below.
Thank you to Dudley Raynor, Nick Allen and their entire crew for having the golf course in excellent condition. Our greens, especially, have come a long way in the past month and are faster and smoother than ever. They are currently rolling an 11 on the stimpmeter, which is the speed we feel makes our greens the most fun to play while considering the significant undulation that we have.
At Eagle Ridge, Charlie Mason, Robert Ostman, and their staff are doing an outstanding job of delivering consistent, superb course conditions. As of this morning, the greens are rolling a 9.5 on the stimpmeter, and we will be pushing to speed them up just a bit more. We held our annual Iron Man tournament at Eagle Ridge this past month, and it was a big hit as always. In the coming month, we have some exciting outside events that we will be hosting. August 19-20 we will have the South Atlantic Fire Expo annual golf tournament for the first time. On September 7-8, the Coastal Players Tour will draw many of the best professional golfers in the region for a two-day tournament. Finally, on September 10, we will be hosting a Carolinas Section PGA Pro-Am. We look forward to a great month of showcasing our course to lots of new people.
Hedingham continues to improve each and every month as we are continuing to re-sod many fairways. This week we are working primarily on the 14th hole. Next week we will be patching up the 9th green to bring it to the level of the rest of the course. Currently, the greens are rolling a 10.5 on the stimpmeter. We are also preparing for the repaving of the back nine cart paths which will be completed this fall. When I have an exact date for that project, it will be posted in the newsletter. On the horizon is the Hedingham Club Championship on September 7-8.
At Olde Liberty, our greens are continuing to heal from aerification. They are currently about 85% recovered and should be 100% within the next week or so. Our crew has done a lot of work on our bunkers in the past week, and they are in very good condition. We hosted a Glow Ball tournament on July 19, and it was a big success. We had 32 participants, and everyone had a great time. We look forward to hosting more of these events in the future. On the horizon is the Olde Liberty Club Championship on September 21-22.
