After 63 matches, the 2015 FSC Match Play has been completed. Kevin Miller claimed the title over Kevin Norman in the final-if necessary match 5&4. This double elimination tournament began in May with a field of 32. There were 5 matches that went into extra holes with the longest being 22 holes with Daniel Davis defeating Doug Myers. A total of 7 matches went to the 18th hole all-square and the largest margin of victory in a single match was Kirby Kim defeating Clint Eaves 8&7.
Kevin Miller advanced all the way through the losers bracket after losing his first match of the tournament, going 9-0 in the losers bracket to come back and claim the championship. His 4&2 victory in the championship match forced the “if necessary” final match in which he won 5&4.
After his victory, Kevin Miller had to say about his experience, “Playing in the match play is always a fun experience. Gives me an opportunity to meet and play with members I may not otherwise get a chance to play with. I enjoy meeting different people each year. The highlight of my tournament this year has to be shooting 65 against Scott Hammond. Having lost my very first match of the tournament, I was thankful for the double elimination format. Please no one contact Rob Parton for the secret on how to take me down.”
Kevin Norman, who advanced all the way through the winners bracket stated, “I definitely exceeded my expectations. I know my performance left those who regularly play with me scratching their heads as I advanced through the brackets. Congratulations to Kevin Miller.”
Thank you to all who participated, we look forward to the 2016 FSC Match Play.
