Update from the Golf Courses

February 1. 2019

Dear FSC Sports Club Members,

I hope everyone’s New Year is off to a great start and you have survived the frigid temperatures we have had this week.  As I’m sure you have noticed, we covered the greens on all four golf courses this week for the second time this year.  Our Champion Bermuda greens require us to do so when temperatures are extremely cold in order to prevent damage once the weather starts to warm up.  Our general rule is once temperatures fall below 25 degrees at night and the daytime high does not get out of the 30’s we will cover the greens.  I appreciate your patience and understanding as I am well aware the we have many hearty souls who would play in any weather conditions.  As always, check Sportsclublive.com for updates this time of year on course closures, frost delays and cart path rules.  Now that the covers have been removed we can look forward to a sustained period of warmer weather as temperatures will be in the 70’s multiple days next week.  I hope everyone gets a chance to get to the course and enjoy the weather.

This Sunday we will kick off our 2019 FSC Cup Member Tournament Series with the Super Bowl Scramble.  We are very excited to say we have more than 40 teams signed up and it should be an awesome event.  If you have not already, please check out our newsletter post from 2 weeks ago which has our entire 2019 schedule.  It is also posted in all the pro shops.  The 2019 schedule will feature many of our most popular tournaments from the past few years however some will be at different locations.  We will also be introducing a new event in September called the Magnolia Cup.  This event will be a Ryder Cup style format that members will have to qualify for.  Look out for more details in the coming weeks!

I am extremely excited about the state of our golf courses and some of the improvements we have on tap for 2019.  A massive tree removal project is almost finished at Hedingham.  We are also repairing bridges and will be re-sodding many areas in the spring.  When completed, Hedingham will have a fresh new look and be more fun and playable than ever.  Smaller tree removal projects are taking place at the other three courses as well which will get more sunlight to our greens and make the courses more playable.  We are committed to taking the necessary steps to improve and sustain the quality of our courses

As always, we value your membership and commitment to the Fred Smith Company Sports Club.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, compliments, or concerns.  I hope to see you all at one of our courses in the near future.  Happy golfing!
